TWO|ROOMS
A Spatial Audio Performance
The headphone film TWO|ROOMS is a musical journey for the listener’s two ears. The listener explores various spaces, approaches the ensemble and is physically immersed by sound. This experiment offers a new way of listening that combines the analog means of a typical concert situation with the aesthetics of digital music reception. In her composition IN THE CAGE, Anna Korsun surrounds the string quartet with a construction fence. This is the perfect starting point for a spatial reinterpretation by the Munich-based collective SOUNDDRAMATURGIEN: both delicate and expressive sounds are staged as a 3D soundscape. The result is an idiosyncratic media translation of a supposedly traditional performance situation. However, it is no longer a cinematic concert documentary, but a surreal audio fiction.
While it rages screaming inside, the sound also spreads into the adjoining rooms. Right from the start, from a great distance, you can feel how physical this 3D acoustic journey will be. Changes in space and perspective place the listener in ever new relationships with the music until the boundary between inside and outside dissolves. This ego-perspective listening experience always raises the question: Am I the only person here?
